Brave little cosmos

For days I've been watching a brave little cosmos battle with the elements in the garden.  It's my first flower of the season and I wasn't expecting to see any of its kind come into bloom for a few more weeks.  It's not fully grown, probably not even half grown but it's decided to do its own thing regardless.

Today it was once again being beaten badly by the wind and I just had to rescue it and bring it inside.  I think the Cabin Fever is getting at me, I've been talking to it every time I go to the kitchen and see it on the window sill.  You will have to take my word for it that it is smiling and telling me to be brave, I will be better soon.

I read somewhere that about 40% of the population experience vertigo at some point in their lifetime so I can't pretend I'm Robinson Crusoe.  But it's a first for me and an experience I'm not enjoying.  I'm a bit of a homebody most of the time but now that I can't drive I think of lots of things I'd like to be doing that require a car trip, places I'd like to visit.

On the bright side I've been overcome with kindness from strangers, I must get a "help me" look on my face when my world goes for a spin.  And I'm grateful that my family are so caring and helpful.

And I'm lucky I have a brave little cosmos to inspire me.

On another topic, Blogger doesn't like me at the moment.  It's being choosy about on which blogs it will allow me to leave comments.  And sometimes it will let me comment but refuse to acknowledge who I am, insisting that I am Anonymous.

  1. Regarding your comment on my blog, I think I am more nostalgic and hesitant around holidays. I am sorry about your vertigo and I do think when we cannot do something we want to do it more. I found that my cmments were blocked when I had ad blocker on my PC. !

    1. Hi Tabor, I think you are right about wanting to do something more when we can't do it. Must just be human nature, I guess.

  2. I feel for you, Pauline. I've had vertigo quite badly a couple of times and it is indescribably unpleasant. I found staying upright, even to sleep, helped a lot, and I once resorted to Flinchlock Release therapy to overcome it - but we are all different and these ideas may not help you. I certainly hope you recover soon (and thank goodness for dear sweet little cosmos flowers!). Hugz Mxx

    1. Thanks, Margaret, Sleeping is a problem and I never do well without my sleep. My daughter took me to see her osteo and I think that definitely helped. I think it is slowly getting better. Certainly hope so.

  3. It's grand.
I don't think I'd cope at all were I to lose my licence. Well done for getting by.

    1. Hi Adrian, I think it's the very thought of not having the freedom to come and go as I please that is the hardest. Keep reminding myself how much I'm saving by not paying the ridiculous price they charge for petrol these days.

  4. 'cosmos' - lovely word and lovely flower!
There was a blogger lady who suffered of vertigo. She used to get help from a ...chiropractor( I thought a chiropractor addresses the spine and muscles).

    1. Cosmos is a lovely little flower, I really like them. I've got relief from an osteopath, how that worked is beyond me but I'm thankful all the same.

  5. Blogger certainly can be cantankerous. As if we don't have enough to deal with!!

Take good care, Pauline...I know you do...but extra hugs go your way. :)

    1. I could teach Blogger a thing or two about being cantankerous sometimes, Lee but I've had to "calm the farm" while my daughter is staying with me. No point upsetting others just because I feel out of sorts. Extra hugs are always helpful. Thanks.

  6. It looks like a cheery flower.

I do hope the vertigo leaves as quickly as it came on, and stays away.

If you try to comment on my blog and can't, that's okay. If it insists on you being anonymous, just sign your name at the bottom and i'll know, even if Blogger is being dingy.

  8. Sounds awful with the vertigo, Pauline - I hope it passes! I talk to my plants quite a lot (taking comfort from having heard/read that it's good for them that we do...) Said hello to a pretty Amaryllis flower this morning that had sprung out just in time for the 2nd Advent weekend. I even patted it at little... As for going Anonymous on Blogger, it happens to me too on some blogs. One has to be observant when one first clicks on the comment box and if the option "Comment As [Anonymous]" comes up, click on the little arrow and then among the options choose "Google Account". I still forget sometimes, though! I think it only happens on the blogs that allow anonymous comments in the first place. (On mine, I don't.)

    1. Thanks for your comment, Monica. I've always talked to my plants but it's only recently they have been talking back to me. Sorry, that's a silly joke, but sad to say, it's true

  9. I've been having similar commenting issues with blogger for a while too, for some reason it's been picking bloggers who make regular comments on mine and marking them as spam so I have to take the time to go looking for them.

  10. Sorry to hear that you have vertigo. I've had it a few times and its awful but my doctor gave me a great website showing how to do the Epley Manoeuvre and it helped get rid of it. Here is the website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SLm76jQg3g. Try it. It doesn't always work the first time. Glad you have a cosmos friend.

  11. I find Blogger works better on "Google Crome" rather than Safari.
