What's that cloud called?

Wikipedia gives descriptions of various clouds but I need pictures.

It appeared in the evening gloom as I was watering a few struggling plants.  Those dry paddocks could do with some water, too.

  1. Looks like a simple status cloud, and they may not bring rain. Hope your weather luck changes soon.

    1. It certainly didn't bring rain but it didn't look like a rain cloud. I'm pretty good at reading the sky but not at remembering names of things.

  2. Cumulus. It's difficult to identify individuals but I think this one looks like Albert.

    1. Albert could have stayed as long as he liked. He was very decorative.

  3. I'm with Adrian: Cumulus (probably Cumulus humilis). With thanks to "The Cloud Book" in association with the UK Met Office.

    1. That's the thing with rain, isn't it? It chooses where and when it will fall. I'm just happy it's raining in parts of Australia that need it so badly.

  6. They are beautiful, but frustrating when you need rain and are not getting it.

  7. It happens nearly every summer, messymimi, we watch the sky not really expecting to see rain clouds at this time of year. This pretty cloud provided a nice distraction.
