FSO - Water, Glass and Shiney Objects Reflections

One word can make a lot of difference to a topic.

I read "water, glass and shiney objects", and went about gathering my photos for this week's shoot-out.  Imagine my consternation when I came to add my post and finally see the last word - reflections!!  Big oopsy!  Back to the drawing board and a frantic hunt through my archives.  I can only use one of the shots I had originally prepared, a shiney object and if you look carefully you will see my reflection there.

A favourite spot for a cup of coffee before an early evening movie is Reva's in the Town Basin.  On Thursday evenings the waka (single-hulled vessels) are usually out on the water.

A little later, the street lights on the other side of the river come on and reflect gently on the water.

Here on the farm, the water in the creek is usually flowing too fast for reflections but after a time without rain you can occasionally find a quiet reach.

That's it for this week.  I will read more carefully next week.

To see some terrific photography check out the rest of the FSO team here.

  3. we also have these boats on the lagoa - there are place to take classes and rent one. would love to do that - take lessons that is, don't know if I really want to be out in the water. have seen them reflected in the lake but never when I had my camera in my pocket. love the nighttime reflection.

  6. Hey there!

Ha, places look different in day and night. I have always been a night person. I like things chilly, dark and just.. everything about it is awesome.

    Really great photos!

  8. I ignored the "shiny objects" portion of this week's topic, and hope it gets re-assigned. Meanwhile, you have done a wonderful job sharing reflections in your town; I think you captured a great moment there with the children and the dog all at the water's edge: priceless!

  10. Pauline--I love this post! The photos are superb. It really gives me a feel for where you live. How far away from a city are you there on the farm? And, do you ever wish that things were different or do you love the country and intend to stay? I go round and round about what will be best. City, country? Both have good and bad points. I guess the point is to be happy where you are! Also would love to know how you made your header so large (lengthwise).

  11. Kerry, I agree. Shiny objects is a great topic although I found most of them I found hard to photograph.

Teri, I live a 35 minute drive from town. There is a small village with sports grounds, churches and one service station (no other shops) about 15 minutes away.

I wouldn't trade living in the country for anything. If I had to leave I'd choose a small rural village, definitely not a big town and I tried city living for two years and felt I was slowly dying.

With the header it is the original file size, just cropped top and bottom and posted.

    Thanks, everyone, for your comments!

  12. About your comment on my blog, chemicals are fun to deal with! But then I also have to explain why white chemicals turn to blue or green when added with a reagent. It can be a little complicated but it's really fun stuff! That's what I liked about that Lab Class - the colors!

And I totally agree with you when you said "We are not all star photographers, I just like to show off where I live.." - which is one of the important points in the FSO. It's just that I feel a little shy with all those pros around. Haha!

  15. I must be confused about the subject for Friday. I thought it was reflections but then I saw one on "chairs". Must check again.
I love your post. The photos are lovely and I agree with another commenter who said that your photos give us a sense of where you live. That creek photo on your farm is just beautiful. So is the header photo. Just lovely.
