Corby

It's that sort of day.  I feel like curling up in sunshine.  Trouble is, there's no sun.  So I will settle for a comfy chair and a book.

Lately I've been choosing one 'wild card' book each time I go to the library.  Taking home an author I've not heard of or read before.  This time it was Ian R MacLeod.  Oh darn, I've just looked again and it is fantasy.

I'll give it a go and if I can't cope (which I usually can't with fantasy writing) I'll do some to knitting.

It feels like the first day of winter.

    1. Despite all the trivia I put on my blog, Graham, I haven't yet resorted to grand announcements about the arrival of a grand-daughter's kitten. (He is cute though!)

  2. Never heard of 'wild card' books at the library. Sounds a great idea to expand your reading range. Unless it is something that isn't your cup of tea, hope this one turns out worth the read but knitting is a good way to go. Corby is a great name, it suits perfectly. What a darling!

    1. The 'wild card' is my own invention, Denise, to widen my reading range (perfectly put, thank you.) I have to admit it hasn't been a very successful idea. Most times it backfires on me. I persevered for three pages into the book before giving up. Yes, Corby is a lovely little chap.

    1. I tell myself we all have to take our turn to have winter. Some people even like it! (Sadly I'm not one of them.)

    1. I only get to curl up with Corby when I visit my daughter, Shane. The 'wild card' book was rubbish. Sorry, I accidentally deleted your other message. Hope the boat building rockets along.

  7. what library do you go to? Whangarei or one in your town? I must join up with the library here, mind you we have several book exchanges down the road from us so it's been quite handy visiting there...

    1. Although I live nearly an hour's drive from Dargaville, we are actually in Kaipara District. A bit too far to go to visit the library. So I go to the Community Library in Ruakaka - a good selection of books and lovely, friendly volunteers.

  8. Mmm, I think winter has arrived here as well. In fact it must be winter, I have just today started a jigsaw. It's also wet, windy and very cold.

    1. I don't do cold very well, it would be too cold for me down your way. I was thinking about a South Island tour next May but think I will have to reconsider the timing after this first cold spell of winter. I will have to check if the library has any jigsaws. I used to enjoy them but haven't done one for years.

    1. I've seen some of your amazing sunny day photos lately, Pat, so it can't be all doom and gloom. It's nearly a year since I visited and I'm yearning for another trip!!

  11. It looks a happy cat. Forget the book and play with the cat. Much more fun than fantasy writing.
