Toadstools

After my long walk up the creek on Tuesday, I was limping and making very slow progress on my way back home.  I didn't want to walk up the road for the last stretch so decided to climb a bank under some old pine trees, crawl under a fence and walk across the paddocks.

The ground was dry enough on the bank for a little sit down and it was then that I noticed these little beauties.

They are so pretty they would have to be hallucinogenic!

  1. They are very attractive. You had to be lucky as they don't last very long. You had a good ramble up the creek.

  3. Most last only days. I really like that perspective on that last shot.

  4. I recently learned about the hallucinogenic properties of these charming little things! They ARE pretty, but it sure turned me off the children's illustrations of them! :-) Sounds like you had a lovely walk!

  5. Very pretty, and it's amazing how the prettiest ones seem to always be dangerous.

  8. I love finding these fairy umbrellas! They're much prettier than what we have here in Texas. Ours are all brown or white. No character at all compared to these!

  9. These are beautiful mushrooms, but most of the amanita family is poisonous, including amanita muscaria pictured here. While some people have eaten this mushroom for its psychoactive properties, they also suffer from the poisons. In Eastern Europe it has been powdered and added to milk as a fly poison which leads to its other name, fly agaric. Because of its striking looks it is often the mushroom pictured in children's stories and wall murals, but this has nothing to do with it's psychoactive properties.
