Is this the beginning of the end??

I thought it was for a minute.  Sprawled on the ground, blood dripping from my forehead, gingerly testing arms and legs, concerned that my glasses are broken. All my silly brain could think was, "I've had a fall.  A fall.  Old people have falls.  This is the beginning of the end."

I think the jolt must have scrambled my brain for a minute or two.  I very soon came to the conclusion that any idiot who walks around in jandals (thongs, flip flops) could trip on a lead that has been laying across the path for about five years.  I can't count how many times I've tripped on it before.  Which reminds me I must do something about the mat in the lounge room that often trips me up.

I'll take this trip as a hint to fall proof my home.  After the last time my back was sore I rearranged my kitchen so I can avoid bending and reaching.  Don't know why I didn't do it years ago.  It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense to anyone else where I keep my saucepans.

The twins had an early birthday party yesterday.  16!  Doesn't seem possible that it was Christmas Day, 16 years ago that I fell in love with them.  Best Christmas presents I've ever had.  They were busy during the day preparing their sleeping arrangements.

  1. Lovely photos Pauline, it's really great seeing your part of the world. Ouch on the fall and I do hope you are recovered by now. Strangely enough I fell two days ago and came down hard on my knees. I was carrying a pile of clean laundry ready to take upstairs, too much for one load really. I could not see my feet and I tripped over a bag I had put in a spot I NEVER put it in normally, and had forgotten to remove it! Oh well, misery loves company. I have had other falls and been worse off, so I am counting my blessings today. Hope you don't have too many bruises after yours.

  2. Hello Pauline, beautiful photos of beautiful greens :D It sure looks different over here :)
Hope you are getting better soon. It is better to put things in a handy place early enough. That way you know where your stuff is when you really get too old to go down on your knees :D Otherwise you would be searching forever :))
    Have a fine sunday

  5. No serious damage I hope. I'm forever falling over. I don't bounce like I used to.

  11. Oh dear Pauline. I do hate it when people say please be careful to me after I've done something like that. However it doesn't stop me saying the same to others about whom I care. So....please be careful!

  12. I know about tumbles. I fell down the stairs last year. Yes, things have to be changed to lessen causes for falls.

  13. Hello Pauline,

Happy Birthday to the girls, can't quite believe how they are having a birthday for their 16th.
You and Lucy have something in common, mats that trip you up. We have just come back from looking after Jacob for a few days. We ended up taping their mat in the lounge after Lucy nearly went for a tumble with Jacob. Of course he managed to rip of one of the pieces of tape!

    Happy Monday.
    Bev.

  15. The trouble is that however you fall, it hurts more in the later years.

  16. Boy, do I identify with this post. I just turned 70 yrs. and I'm so careful about falling. My mom was never the same after a bad fall and I learned that being very careful about where I walk and how I do things is very important.
I'm so glad that you didn't hurt yourself badly. Please take care.

  17. So sorry to hear about your fall. I hope all is better now. But you are so right - very few things are scarier than falling. I should do a quick run through of our house, with an eye to safety proofing it too. A very good idea. Take care and God bless, and Happy Christmas! xoxox

  19. It is so easy to trip as we get older. get rid of the cord or cover it with something. Hope your injuries were minor. have fun with the twins.

  20. Glad you did not break anything but your glasses even if that is trouble enough. Good idea to try and fall proof your home though. I've arranged my cupboards so that what I need most is easy to reach + nothing too heavy on the top shelves (having problems wirh lifting things)
