FSO–The work you do

I rarely refer to the work for which I am paid – and that’s the only work I think of as work - I’d upset someone… somehow… for sure.   Everything else I just play at.  If  I set out to do something and at the end of the day it is done, I guess that would qualify as work.  But if I find a hundred distractions between starting and finishing the job,  the work factor seems diminished.  Windows need cleaning?  I can start on Saturday morning and maybe they will be finished by Sunday evening.  And if they’re not….so what?  They will be finished some other time.  I no longer have what I was once so proud of – a work ethic!

The definition I have fixed on is: physical or mental effort directed towards doing or making something.  A little while ago I was having trouble finding the appropriate word to use in everyday speech and remembering names, which I’d never been all that good at, so a bit of a slip was most unwelcome.  I often remember names by remembering the nicknames I have given people first.  But when I almost blurted out the nickname in place of the name, it was very nearly one of those embarrassing moments with which even Minties can’t help.   Since then I’ve scheduled a little brain and memory test time into each evening.

(I'd love to know if anyone can find that five letter word.)

I have a rather advanced exercise schedule.  Intense workout, followed by a gentle wind down (reading), then a total unwind (knitting).  A totally knackered brain could never have worked out a workout like that!

Made short work of that topic, didn’t I?

The rest of the FSO team will show us their work here.  It will be interesting to see how others have approached the topic.

  1. I get no pay for anything I do unless we count the roof over my head and the food I eat. I do just about whatever I want whenever I want to. I like your approach to the topic very interesting.

  6. okay another week when our verbage is about the same.... maybe you LONED me the take on this topic long distance. I also hate to call a brief sweep through the kitchen or a swipe of a damp cloth over a wall plate or corner to remove finger prints 'work' - have a great week.

  7. Well, I never would have guessed that olden was the word, but it sounds right to me. And I was trying everything I could think of including Ginger's, Loned which doesn't work because it is the wrong spelling. Anyhow, I don't get paid to work unless I am getting paid for a side photography job. but I do a lot of laundry, but I'll be damned if I'm posting pics of that. Ugh!

  9. I need a routine like this. I go straight for the knitting. It's a good idea to keep as many brain cells as we can.
I think that you still have a fine work ethic. Carry on...

  10. I like your memory sheet. I’ll have to find the site because my husband has been diagnosed with MCI (mild cognitive impairment) and I am trying to find things to help him – he does not like Sudoku. I found that if I write posts on my blog about trips we took and place many photos it helps him remember. I read a lot and knit and also try to find everything I can to help both our brains. Thanks for coming to my blog and leaving a comment – I appreciate it.

  11. Pauline my memory has always been atrocious otherwise I would be a very worried person these days. I just keep on doing the crosswords and hoping.

By the way you could also have LODEN which is a heavy cloth I used to hear talked of but I haven't heard of it for years. I think the old breeches used to be made from it. I must Google it.

  12. I think I would have a real hard time doing those memory test things. Good on you for doing them. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a lovely comment on son's birthday post by the way. Really sweet of you to do that. Hope you have a great week.
