FSO - The Rule of Space

Applying the Rule of Space.  Huh?

Thankfully Rebecca gave us an easy to understand tutorial:

When you take a photo of a person or animal,
(and even inanimate moving objects,)
The Rule of Space says that you will create a more pleasing image
by giving the subject space in which to move.

OK, I get it.
I think this one portrays what I noticed at the time of taking the photo - that there were various activities for various interests,  different groups heading in different directions. (And the port-a-loos down the back were quite popular, too.)

I know the object should be moving into the picture.  But this shot is about being the one here on the ground, left behind, so I think it is more appropriate that the plane is moving out of the picture.

 Daytime action!

Evening action - a skydog has to have plenty of room to move!

That wasn't too hard!  I wonder how everyone else on the team interpreted that rule?  Pop over here to find out.

  1. hi, I am pretty sure that one of Rebecca's examples in the tutorial was something moving out of the photo. love the skydog - good catch. I think that the daytime action is my fav. great photo.

  2. The plane taking off is really good. you do get the sense of being left behind on the ground. The boys running is also good because you left the space in front of them.

    All are nice :)

  6. I like how you express your thoughts about the interpretation of the rule; and I agree. Excellent plane take-off and looking at those kids come running one always feels one ought to move not to be run over! :)

  9. The sky colors are beautiful. And it was nice of everyone in the 1st photo to move in the appropriate direction for you.

  10. I think the first picture could do with a crop, the rucksack is in the way All the others are perfect as they are.

  11. Great choices for your theme. I'm a bit surprised I didn't see any cows walking towards you though. I like the first photo and the plane is a really great shot too.

  15. Fascinating. You have given me multiples ways to interpret the Rule of Space...I was simplistically looking at motion "into" the picture - but the plane moving "out" and the first picture where there are multiple spaces within one picture gives me better insight into use of space. Bravo.
