FSO - Public transportation

Public transport is not something we have around here.  On a couple of occasions I have seen a large bus on our road carrying children to their school camp at Tangihua Lodge in the forest but I've been too busy getting out of their way on the narrow, dirt road to worry about a photo.  But there is a regular little school bus with the telltale sign of its travels.  I don't think this is it, ours is a little smaller but you can see it services a similar road.

It's quite different from its big brother in the city:

My form of public transport this week was the plane.  This wasn't the one, as I departed just after dark but it was the same size.   It might not be very big but it covered the 350 kms (217 miles) from Auckland to New Plymouth in 25 minutes and that's better than a 4 - 5 hour drive.

I'm a bit late joining FSO this week, only got back home an hour or so ago.  The rest of the team will have their shots here.

  1. That is a very different looking plane than I have ever seen before. Great photo. I so love see things from other countries. I always like to visit your blog.

  2. That Air New Zealand plane looks a bit like a zebra but, upon reflection, I assume it represents leaves. Whatever it is the design is unusual!

  3. I agree, that plane is quite unique in its design. I like the stripes and the color.

  4. I forgot that not everyone is familiar with the sylised Air New Zealand koru on the tail of their planes. The koru is an iconic symbol of NZ flora.

The "leaf" is the silver fern. The image of the silver fern is widely representative of NZ and Kiwis. The symbol comes from the leaf of the New Zealand fern - Ponga is the Maori name. The leaves are dark green on the upper side and silver underneath. The underside glows brightly in moonlight providing excellent track markers in New Zealand's native forests.

The colour black is a tribute to the national rugby union football team, the All Blacks. Yes, the country really is that crazy about rugby.

  5. love the FYI in you comment - I think it shows real dedication to turn on your computer and post 'transportation' after a long day. I find it interesting - the School busses. just realized that all towns get their kids to school in different ways. would make a nice shoot-out.

  6. Your post made me realize that the only means of transportion in NZ that I ever heard of so far is cars and planes, and maybe the occasional mentioning of a school bus. I had to go google to check if you actually have any railways there! Well, you probably know whose views from NZ I've mostly been seeing, apart from yours... ;)

  7. When I was a kid it was fun to sit in the back of the bus and fly up in the air when we hit a bump! Looks like the kids in the dirty bus have been bouncing around having a great time!

  8. Loved your explanation about the paint job on the plane. We see so much which we don't question, why? Perhaps it's something we lose as we become adults, kids always ask why? More times than we like answering!

  9. I love the bus, but I'm sorry, I never could get myself to like airplanes. I hope that it goes alright for you.

  11. In many places, kids would have drawn graffitti on the dirt.

That ANZ place, was that during the World Cup?
