A mother's birthday

My daughter-in-law wasn't home over the weekend for her birthday.  She was away helping her friend cater for 160 wedding guests on Saturday night.  I imagine the last thing she wanted when she returned home on Sunday was to be summonsed to have a coffee with me before going to her own home.

I had been appointed decoy to allow Krystal, Georgia and Krystal's friend, Alana to get her cake in the oven and do a house tidy up.

Before the girls came up with this scheme Alana had been out early on Sunday taking Georgia for a ride on their new "little horse", Leo.

After much to-ing and fro-ing to my house for ingredients they couldn't find, Alana and Krystal had the cake in the oven.  Georgia's job was tidying up.  And what do you do if you run out of time?  Put all the mess in one place, throw something over it and decorate it with dried flowers.

They decorated the dining room beautifully.  Don't you love the bottle of whisky? (which their mother never drinks)

They sang happy birthday while they were waiting for the cake to cook; gave their mum a pretty flower for her hair and hug.

Mothers really do know the true meaning of "it's the thought that counts, don't they?"

  1. They sure do. Heather, who has such a beautiful smile, really looks so serene in that picture. I wonder what she was really thinking?

  2. Such a cute post and lovely photos. I'll have to borrow that idea about covering everything up with a sheet and decorating with dried flowers.
