Escapee

In an effort to improve my photography, I try to take a photo each day.  Some days it is easy, others I struggle to find something different to aim at.

Today was one of those difficult days and I was thinking I'd have to resort to another flower shot in the garden.  I never seem to get any better at those so was a bit gloomy.  I was nearly home before I spotted a dark shape and turned up the side road to see what it was. And there he was, a nice young bull, looking not one bit concerned about being separated from his mates, just mildly curious about what I was doing pointing that thing at him. I almost like this shot but there is something wrong with it and I can't figure out what it is. Should there be a bit more sky above his head?  Adrian?  GB?  Anyone?

Don't worry, he has now been been put safely off the road side.

I really am a simple soul.  This little encounter cheered me up so much I came home and tried another flower shot with fresh confidence.  And like it.

  3. it is very hard to take a photo of any animal that is black, black is one of the hardest colors to get a good shot. your bull is gorgeous and makes me want to see him for myself. the flower is wonderful.

  4. I think you did well to capture such a closeup view of that bull. I hope you were using a special lens and not kneeling just below on the hillside!

  5. As you point it out, I think I see what you mean. In painting classes they always go on about the horizontal line which should not be in the middle of the picture but cut it 1/3 or 2/3. Actually with this photo I think I'd try cutting off even more of the sky to increase the feeling that this huge animal is looking down on you.

I like your flower picture too!

  6. I just love cows so I think the picture is wonderful. Although technically I am thinking you would want to cut off sky as stated above.

  8. Will you show the photos your advisers have come up with?
I think your bull is very handsome.

Funny, I'd love to be able to take really good photos but I've never thought of putting them online for advice.

  9. I like this photo of the bull the way it is – it shows how big and strong the animal is. A while back I found a site on the Internet of amateur photographers where you can send your picture and they’ll tell you how to improve it. If you are interested I’ll go back and try to find it again.

  10. Lovely shots. Yes, as Adrian says, I'd clone out the lines. And maybe have more grass at his head end, rather than his hind end. His eyes (the best bit) should be closer to a 'sweet spot'*, and draw your attention better.
