FSO - Smells

The smells that let me know I am home are a bit different from those around town.  To spare the more sensitive amongst us I have not attempted to capture the most prominent of them.  A fresh cow pat has its own unique smell and from the right angle can even look beautiful.  A sight and smell close to it is often experienced around the farm, as effluent is spread on the pasture:

I love the smell of freshly turned earth:

Down by the creek where I am house-sitting at the moment is the unmistakable smell of damp:

During the week Georgia loved the smell of her birthday dinner:

I'm just as happy to bury my nose in the comforting smell (not to mention taste) of a cup of coffee.

Thanks, NanU for the topic.  I look forward to lots of French smells.

  2. Mmmmm coffee, vanilla and burnt sugar - the combination is the smell that I remember from German cafes. One of my favorite.

  4. Ah, the smell of effluent. I was hiking once, and found myself on a long road between two fields when a tractor came out and started tossing manure in the air all over one field. The wind caught it and brought it over the road. I started to run, to get out of the black rain, but the road was icy. Happily I was able to brush most of the stuff off me before it melted - thank goodness it was very cold that day.
That cup of coffee does look inviting!

  5. I love the smell of cow manure as well - it seems to be one of those things one either loves or hates. Perhaps it's to do with the memories that accompany it.

  10. My mother use to say that cow manure was one of her favorite smells on the farm. I have goats and in my old age I'm sure I will remember their "Ode du parfum". It's unforgettable!
That coffee photo is delightful. I want to jump right into it.

  11. Pauline, I adore the smells of agriculture, farmland and pastures. I am so glad you posted about the smells close to home.

I really love the shot of your coffee. It looks more like a dessert than a drink. Mmm Mmm good.
