FSO Circles

Kerry from Corvallis, Oregon came up with the topic for this week's Friday Shoot Out.  How she thought of circles I don't know but it's been a great theme.

One of the things I enjoy most about these Friday shoot outs is how, when I open my eyes and look for things, they are there around me all the time, I just didn't notice them before. This week circles were no exception.  They are everywhere, all around, in the most ordinary day to day objects.  I wonder why so many things are circular in shape?

Some circles retain their shape when all around them is falling to pieces:

Other things that once were circles are circles no longer.

Some round things that have the same function look remarkably different.  Tires, for instance, come in a purely practical form:
and then there is the fun filled variety.

Circles appear in the garden of a friend as an art form:

They have lots of practical uses:

Some perform very specific (and important) functions:

Some circles are purely ornamental:
Some tell a story.  (I really liked the story this one told - it was extremely good!)

This one is a great favourite of many of us:
And finally, a special summery circle:

  1. Well you had a hugely successful shoot-out this week: so many great shots here. I think the circle is unique because it is so common both in nature and in man-made objects. As you have pointed out it is beautiful, functional, and even sacred.

And I must say I love that circle-y hat!

  3. What's the first photo? It can't be an old tomb.

I like your camera, I like it that I can zoom in and out and also take bird photos.

You have a great collection of circles.

  7. Love the big wheel on the bike rack! So many circles, after looking at five blogs my head is spinning. Wonderful to have two cameras so they can shoot each other! And do you really have a pink dashboard in your car?

  10. Oh I loved the hat, the colors make me feel hopeful spring is coming. You are right about a lot of circles losing their shape. My hay bales are perfectly round, but laying on the ground they start of get one sided. Good job.

  11. Pauline I really love the first photo but my favorite is the wine bottle. I like the whimsical hat at the end too. It reminds me of all the big hats donned for the Kentucky Derby, only mexican style.
